
Highlights of the Global PPM WG meeting - Nov 2023
The Global PPM Working Group convened in Paris on November 12, 2023, and witnessed a substantial turnout, engaging over 120 participants from various countries beyond the Big 7 PPM priority countries. The collective interest reflected a promising engagement of health providers, extending hope for increased diagnoses within the private sector.

The meeting began with TB champion Mazidutan sharing a personal journey, underlining the challenges faced in securing accurate diagnosis and appropriate care to combat TB. This narrative emphasized the urgency to End TB, shedding light on the struggle faced with multiple attempts and misdiagnoses.

The meeting contextualized the significance of the UNHLM on End TB, utilizing recent Global TB Report 2023 indicating a surge in diagnosed cases, primarily attributed to contributions from the private sector.

The Global Fund remains the predominant financier, supporting 75% of PPM. There's a notable disparity as private providers, contributing about 30% of TB notifications, receive merely 12% of the funding.

A notable advancement showcased was the availability of data and evidence through PPM dashboards by the World Health Organization, a pivotal tool for analysis and program enhancement. Progress, innovation, and effective data collection were highlighted as integral achievements through these dashboards.

Country presentations from Kenya, Nigeria, Indonesia, and India displayed their advancements using data dashboards.

Gujarat state in India demonstrated that investing in private providers significantly increased #EndTB notifications, backed by a simple graph illustrating notifications from private providers in the region.

An informative session on innovative financing and policies encompassed Indonesia's health insurance schemes, Bangladesh's contracting mechanisms, and India's strategies involving financing, RFPs, contracting, and payments. This segment aimed at accumulating diverse learnings to further the cause to #EndTB.

The meeting encompassed an interactive panel on PPM implementation featuring shared innovations, challenges, and potential solutions.

Insights from the COVET study unveiled the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the private TB sector and patient pathways, emphasizing consistent quality TB care despite the challenging circumstances.

A compendium of best practices of PPM from India was launched at the meeting. This valuable resource aims to inspire and guide global initiatives towards more effective TB management and care

The meeting highlighted the imperative to transcend beyond mere case notifications, emphasizing the need for comprehensive approaches to combat TB effectively.
